Falcons Could Target Veteran Cut on Monday Who Has Raheem Morris Connection

Raheem Morris has had plenty of chances to see Tremayne Anchrum play, and he's a potential fit at a position of need for the Falcons.

Teams are performing last-minute roster moves in preparation for the NFL Draft on Thursday, and one roster cut that is flying under the radar could prove to be exactly what the Atlanta Falcons need.

The Houston Texans released Tremayne Anchrum Jr. on Monday just three months after signing him to a futures/reserve contract. Anchrum has connections to Falcons head coach Raheem Morris from earlier in their careers, and that's only the first thing that makes him a perfect target for Atlanta.

Falcons Should Reunite Raheem Morris and Tremayne Anchrum

The Falcons are in serious need of depth at guard, and Anchrum is a low-cost option (it's hard to imagine him needing more than a minimum-salary contract and the option to fight for a training camp spot) who could pay dividends.

The 26-year-old was a Super Bowl champion with the Los Angeles Rams, where he played from 2020 through 2023, and as a reserve in L.A. he would have often been on the scout team offense that was up against Raheem Morris' starting defenses.

Anchrum spent the 2024 season on the Houston Texans' practice squad after suiting up for all 17 games for the Rams in 2023. He's only played significant snaps in two of his 31 career games, but he did show flashes in his last one. Pro Football Focus gave him a stellar 83.5 pass blocking grade in Week 18 of the 2023 season.

At the end of the day, even if Anchrum would likely just be a training camp body who might land on the practice squad, even that is something the Falcons could use. The starting guards on this line are great, but there is almost no depth, and Anchrum could have a real shot at unseating Kyle Hinton or Elijah Wilkinson.
