The Atlanta Falcons haven’t been very active in free agency over the last few weeks, as they don’t have much cap space to work with. However, the Falcons made a small re-signing to start the week, which should provide depth in the secondary.
On Monday, the Falcons announced they re-signed cornerback Dee Alford to a one-year deal. Before free agency opened up last month, Atlanta didn’t tender the 27-year-old defensive back, making him an unrestricted free agent.
However, the two sides agreed on a new deal almost a month later. After the re-signing was official, the veteran cornerback took to Twitter to express his excitement about staying with the Falcons.
“God is The Greatest,” the veteran cornerback posted on Twitter on Monday.

Falcons News: Atlanta Re-Signs Dee Alford
The veteran defender saw an expanded role under then-defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake last season after not starting many games in his first two seasons with the Falcons. In 2024, Alford had 83 combined tackles, 11 pass deflections, a tackle for loss, a quarterback hit, a sack, and a forced fumble in 16 games (11 starts).
With more snaps, Alford had his ups and downs in coverage, which opposing offenses tried to exploit. The 5-foot-11 cornerback possessed a 72.0 completion percentage allowed on targets, a 117.9 pass rating allowed when targeted, and gave up eight touchdowns.
Additionally, Alford recorded a pedestrian 55.9 coverage grade (146th among 222 qualified cornerbacks) and an overall grade of 58.2 (138th), according to Pro Football Focus. But the veteran defender held his own in stopping the run, sporting a 64.5 run defense grade (84th).
Nonetheless, Falcons fans hope Alford’s play will improve this upcoming season under new defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich. Atlanta didn’t make many additions to the secondary this offseason, except for signing Mike Ford Jr. That said, it will be interesting to see how Ulbrich deploys Alford in his scheme for the 2025 season.
