It isn't off the table that Strand could work his way into the lineup when you consider the injury-prone options sitting atop the depth chart. Michael Penix Jr. has just now been cleared to return, while Tua Tagovailoa has his own laundry list of past injuries.
Strand could get an opportunity at some point in the 2026 season, and that puts all the more focus on this week's performance. The hope is that the quarterback can offer a similarly dominating effort and give the Falcons a real conversation about whether or not there is a surprise starting option.
For Strand, it will be interesting to watch how the rookie responds to a level of pressure he previously hasn't faced. The Falcons should give Strand plenty of snaps, with Penix being held out and Rush having a known ceiling.

Tagovailoa is a known commodity, with the ceiling of the veteran being extremely limited. No question, the Falcons would be better off looking at Penix and Strand and finding out whether either starter could become a surprise answer beyond this season.
With this in mind, there is no shortage of pressure on Strand as the team looks to find out whether last week was the outlier or is a sign of things to come. The hope remains that Strand is walking an unexpected path and is going to prove to be a surprise answer for Atlanta.
