It isn't just the lack of clarity at quarterback that should have Atlanta Falcons fans concerned as we head into OTAs and the summer months. The Falcons have a clear issue when it comes to receiver depth after parting ways with Darnell Mooney in the 2026 offseason. While Drake London remains a star target, there isn't one reliable name behind London that fans can expect a clear level of production from moving forward.
Olamide Zaccheaus, Jahan Dotson, Zachariah Branch, Dylan Drummond, and Casey Washington are the next five names on the depth chart. Branch has exciting upside, while both Zaccheaus and Dotson have been productive reserve options previously in their respective careers. Still, none of this group are proven consistent performers, leaving the area a clear potential weakness moving forward.
This has been a consistent story for the Falcons since the departure of Julio Jones half a decade ago. Not since Jones left has Atlanta put the same energy and depth into the position, consistently taking cheap swings in hopes of finding consistent production.
Even if Branch has a huge impact in year one, you still lack any needed depth to survive potential injuries. London has consistently missed short windows in his career due to how physically he plays the position. One would think that this would encourage the Falcons to be actively searching for ways to add additional depth ahead of the 2026 season.
Falcons Lack of Receiver Depth Obvious Area of Concern Moving Closer to 2026 Season
Keenan Allen and Stefon Diggs are potential veteran fits who both remain in free agency and could have valued playing time in Atlanta's current rotation. It is at least worth a phone call as the team moves towards the season without reliable answers rostered.
Part of this could be due to the offensive load that Kyle Pitts is expected to take from the tight end position, as well as Bijan Robinson being an offense unto himself. While both of these are reasonable conclusions, it doesn't take away the importance of having depth at a position that has a chance to thrive due to the attention that Bijan and Pitts will both garner.
Atlanta has to learn from the past seasons and understand that it is no longer an area where they can simply bargain shop and hope for the best. This is especially the case as your quarterback situation lacks any clarity, with Michael Penix Jr. failing to seize the starting job and veteran Tua Tagovailoa being brought in as a potential answer.
No question, the Falcons need to aggressively seek to improve an area of weakness over the next few weeks of the offseason. Going into the season with the current depth chart shouldn't be an option based on the lack of clear answers.
