The Kirk Cousins era with the Atlanta Falcons is all but done as the team gears up for the 2025 preseason.
With Michael Penix Jr. set to take the reins as the Falcons' starting quarterback, all that is left for Atlanta to do is find someone willing to take on Cousins' bloated contract. That has been tough sledding so far.
But, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, one potential landing spot for the veteran signal caller is still in the mix.
Hopes of Falcons Trading Kirk Cousins to Steelers Revived Before OTAs
“I had some conversations with people this week that led me to believe that Cousins is at the very least on the Steelers’ radar, if something were to fall through on Rodgers," Fowler said during an appearance on SportsCenter, via Bleacher Report.
He added, however, Atlanta would need to take on a "small percentage" of Cousins' mega-deal to execute a trade. Yet, the team has shown it's "not been willing to budge" on that point, which is currently tanking the possibility of Cousins going elsewhere.
The idea that Atlanta would be forced to eat some of the money remaining on Cousins' contract should not shock anyone. It is one of the worst deals in the league today. No team in their right mind would ever be willing to absorb that entire cost, given the type of season the veteran QB just turned in.
Whether it be the Steelers or another franchise, the Falcons must do whatever they can to get Cousins off their roster. Until that happens, the Penix Jr. era can not officially begin, as that shadow will be hanging over the recent first-round pick's head if Cousins remains on the team entering training camp.
