The Atlanta Falcons are marching toward the 2026 season. But before they get there, they have to figure out Bijan Robinson’s next contract. The Falcons’ star running back is due for a contract extension even after they picked up his fifth-year option and the negotiation process got a little easier when Breece Hall agreed to a contract extension with the New York Jets on Friday.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Hall will sign a three-year, $45.75 million contract extension with the Jets. Hall was set to play on the franchise tag in 2026, but the deal will make him the third-highest paid running back in the NFL with an average annual value of $15.25 million.

With Hall’s deal in the books, Robinson now has a number to beat and perhaps one step closer to cashing in on his early success.

Breece Hall’s deal is first domino to fall in Bijan Robinson's contract negotiations

Hall is one of the top running backs in the NFL, but he hasn’t produced the same level that Robinson has produced over his first three seasons. The Falcons star, who was taken with the eighth overall pick in the 2023 draft, has the statistical edge in every category over Hall (although Hall suffered a torn ACL with the Jets in 2022), meaning whatever money the Jets back was going to get was the floor for his new deal.

The next question the Falcons may ask is what is Robinson’s ceiling for a new contract. Spotrac estimates Robinson’s market value at $18.9 million per season. But that number could also go up as Robinsons’ draft classmate, Jahmyr Gibbs seeks a new contract from the Detroit Lions.

Gibbs could be the next piece of the puzzle to fall into place as Spotrac estimates his deal at $20.2 million. If that number is higher, it may give the Falcons the range for Robinson’s deal. But Robinson also has more rushing yards, receptions and receiving yards during his career, which could give him a case for similar money.

The Falcons knew that Robinson’s contract was going to be an interesting process and having some information at hand should help them. But the longer they wait, the more the price could go up as it did when Hall put pen to paper on Friday.
