If there is one remaining concern in the Atlanta Falcons' 2025 offseason, it is the stability of the secondary. After A.J. Terrell and Jessie Bates, there are nothing but question marks in the back end of Atlanta's defense. While the addition of rookies Billy Bowman, Xavier Watts, and Cobee Bryant is expected to bolster the unit, the team could still use a splashy addition. Re-signing veterans Dee Alford and Mike Hughes isn't the type of defining moves the fan base was hoping for. All of the team's attention has understandably gone to rebuilding the pass rush.
Still, there is one obvious move left for the team in the much-speculated reunion between Raheem Morris and Miami Dolphins corner Jalen Ramsey. It has been a speculated fit ever since the news broke that the two sides were looking to move on. The recent release of Jaire Alexander furthers Atlanta's hopes that a move could soon happen. Alexander's release both provided an alternative to Ramsey and showed how little leverage the Dolphins currently have in a potential deal.
Falcons' 2025 Offseason Could Find Perfect Final Addition in Corner Jalen Ramsey
Adding Ramsey gives Atlanta the best pairing it has offered star corner A.J. Terrrell and leaves the ability to have Mike Hughes, Cobee Bryant, Dee Alford, and Billy Bowman compete for the final starting spot. It drastically alters your depth chart and the ceiling of this team.
Being able to have another reliable veteran's aids, Jessie Bates, as well as allowing the veteran safety to do what he does best. It puts far less pressure on Bates, which was a consistent theme of Atlanta's 2024 season. The struggles of Atlanta's starting corners, as well as an uneven fit with safety Justin Simmons, often put unfair pressure on the Falcons' star defender.
With this in mind, adding Ramsey isn't just about demoting Dee Alford and adding much-needed depth. It is a move that makes the entire secondary better and takes pressure off Atlanta's star players to reach an unfair level of perfection. While the newly enforced pass rush will go a long way in fixing this, the team still needs to add at least one proven corner to the position.
Whether it is a trade for Ramsey or waiting for the Dolphins to be forced to release the veteran, things must end with the corner wearing a Falcons uniform. It is a much-needed final piece that pushes the Falcons into NFC South contention and gives the team an unknown playoff ceiling.
