Atlanta Falcons star Bijan Robinson enjoyed a breakout 2024 campaign and was one of the few positive stories to emerge from the season. It was impossible to keep the star off the field, with it always feeling like he was a step away from breaking a big play.
This was aided by the contributions of Tyler Allgeier, who deserves far more credit for how he has handled a difficult situation. The Falcons RB stepped up in his rookie year into a dumpster fire of an offense and finished with 1,000 rushing yards, and had every reason to believe he should be the starter moving forward.
Enter Robinson, and Allgeier still embraced a lesser role. Not one complaint has been heard from a player who had every reason to feel the situation was unfair. Instead, the punishing back made himself far too valuable to leave out of the offense.
Atlanta GM furthered these expectations this week, talking about the team's expectations of getting Allgeier even more involved, per Olivia Sayer of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. While this is a bit odd in some ways, it is understandable. Robinson's legs should be protected as the Falcons begin to consider the inevitable payday heading the star's way.
Falcons Want to Involve Tyler Allgeier More Often

For Allgeier, this is a contract year and an important season to continue to make the case to win a starting job. Atlanta cannot afford to pay both backs, making this, in all likelihood, the final year Falcons fans can enjoy the dynamic duo. With this in mind, not only are you saving future carries for Robinson, you're giving Allgeier a chance to build a better resume ahead of hitting free agency. The one difficult part of this remains taking Robinson off the field at any point.
Zac Robinson's offense doesn't make it easy to have both players on the field, and that is especially the case with the talent the Falcons have at the receiver position. Alternating Robinson and Allgeier makes sense, but how Atlanta is going to get the impressive back more involved remains a bit of a mystery. If this can be accomplished while playing winning football, it is a wise move for the above reasons.
It is going to be difficult to see Allgeier walk away at the end of 2025, even with the understanding that it is a needed loss to be able to keep Robinson, Drake London, and Mooney together. Fans should remember this, appreciating every Allgeier carry in what should be his final season in Atlanta.
