The end of June is finally here, meaning the Atlanta Falcons' annual training camp is right around the corner. This year's session will begin on July 23 for Falcons veterans and rookies alike as head coach Raheem Morris prepares to assess what he has to work with as the team aims to end its near-decade-long playoff drought.

As close as training camp is to arriving, the Falcons still have time to sign a veteran free agent or two if they aren't satisfied with their current crop. Most of the top names are long gone by now; however, Atlanta still has time to sign an available playmaker who'd immediately provide the offense with a boost.

Falcons Must Call Free-Agent WR Keenan Allen Before Training Camp

Falcons fans wouldn't be upset if general manager Terry Fontenot signed another wide receiver before training camp. Drake London, Darnell Mooney, and Ray-Ray McCloud III are all talented playmakers; however, the depth beyond the trio isn't exactly the most imposing.

With that in mind, the Falcons would be wise to give free-agent WR Keenan Allen a call.

Allen opened the NFL offseason as one of the top available wideouts and is still one of the last ones standing. The six-time Pro Bowl receiver would inject plenty of experience into Atlanta's WR room, having played 159 games between the regular season and playoffs throughout his 12-year career. During that time, he racked up six 1,000-yard campaigns, with his latest coming just two years ago.

Even though his best days are behind him, Allen is still talented enough to operate as the Falcons' WR3/4. He just recorded 70 catches for 744 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games with the Chicago Bears last season, and even drew a solid 95.2 passer rating on his 121 targets.

A quartet of London, Mooney, McCloud, and Allen would easily be one of the most dangerous WR groups in the NFL, and could help Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. take his game to even higher heights.

Allen being unsigned at this point in the offseason likely means signing him won't break the bank either. That should make a deal even more enticing to an Atlanta team currently owning the third-smallest cap space in the league ($5.3 million).

Injuries frequently occur throughout NFL training camp, meaning Allen could see plenty of attention if teams suffer WR-related losses early on. If the Falcons want to get ahead of the curve, calling the 33-year-old playmaker sooner rather than later is a must.
