TheAtlanta Falcons have very limited optionswhen it comes to the team's current pass rush after losing James Pearce Jr. for the first half of the season to a suspension and Jalon Walker to a season-ending injury. Leonard Floyd and Arnold Ebiketie left the franchise in free agency making it clear that its pass rushing depth is incredibly limited one year fater finishing as the top pass rush within the NFC. The Falcons only trailed the Denver Broncos in total sack production and appeared to be poised for another great season before losing young pieces.
With this in mind, any potential free agent upgrades should be considered including Haason Reddick. The aging pass rusher has only managed a combined 3.5 sacks over the past two seasons and hasn't delivered anywhere close to expectations in recent seasons. However, before this Reddick offered four straight seasons of double-digit sack production and was one of the league's most dominating forces off the edge.
Atlanta taking a gamble on finding this version of the defender has no downside based on the current options. Already, Za'Darius Smith has been signed in hopes of putting his career back on track and giving the Falcons a surprise source of pass rush.
Falcons Should Consider Giving Haason Reddick One Last Opportunity
Reddick would be an established veteran that gives Atlanta a hope of finding productivity and perhaps a trade chip ahead of the deadline if the Falcons fall out of contention as expected. No question, the Falcons should at least explore the signing understanding there is little to be lost by looking at every possible improvement.
If the signing doesn't work out as hoped it is an easy pivot with any veteran deal given out at this point in the year being easy to cut. The only concern is the fact there have been questions in past about Reddick's fit and this led to an exit from Philadelphia despite being incredibly productive during his tenure with the franchise.
Prior to the last two years of struggles Reddick had 27.0 regular season sacks in a two-year run with the franchise. This is the level Atlanta would be hoping to recapture either finding a surprise option to fuel the team's pass rush or a valued trade chip. Either way would be a huge win with the worst possible result being Reddick continuing to underwhelm and the Falcons pivoting in a different direction.
