TheAtlanta Falcons are getting ready for Week 1with the preseason and final roster decisions now firmly in the rearview. Atlanta's biggest focus has remained the debate at the quarterback position and what the position is going to look like by season's end. Lost in the turmoil at the position is just how badly the Falcons are doing at setting up whoever holds onto the job at the receiver position. The Falcons broke camp with only five pass catchers rostered, and Drake London is the only name the franchise can rely on.
Atlanta is one injury away from fielding a starting lineup featuring three of Jahan Dotson, Chris Blair, Zachariah Branch, and Olamide Zaccheaus. If you're seeing a continual theme through this group, it is a lack of size and experience serving in a featured role. Both Zaccheaus and Dotson have had stints of production, but have served as secondary pieces most recently in their respective careers.
Baked into this as well is the fact that London has a history of injuries and missing time due to how he plays the position. The star receiver isn't going to be helped by a quarterback situation that could easily throw London into injuries, something that would force the Falcons into true desperation mode at the position.
It is odd just how little urgency the Falcons have had bringing in a second option behind London opting to gamble on bargain signings and an undersized rookie. There is simply no way around how alarming this decision-making is.
Falcons Continue to Put Zero Investment Into Receiver Depth Chart
The Falcons could've easily signed an experienced veteran or a secondary weapon for a reasonable rate. It is easy to argue the receiver position has never been deeper, and yet the Falcons appear comfortable treating it as if they only need to worry about having a primary option. Through three different head coaching changes, this has been a continual theme ever since Julio Jones walked out the door.
Not since the legend walked away have the Falcons been able to put together a room capable of supporting questionable quarterback situations. The Falcons appear content to simply invest in London and piece the rest together as if there is no value in having depth at a position that can elevate underwhelming starters.
This can be added to a long list of frustrations and concerns facing the Falcons moving into the 2026 season. One that it is hard to have any level of excitement, around understanding what an uphill battle it will be.
