Preseason NFL games can easily be frowned upon by fans. A "meaningless" game with no implications can easily be glanced over for baseball. However, it has more implications than one may think. For the Atlanta Falcons this preseason, there is no exception to this claim.

Specifically, there have been questions about the running back room behind star Bijan Robinson. With Tyler Allgeier in question to be traded within the next year and Jase McClellan leaving in free agency, who do the Falcons turn to? Carlos Washington Jr. was supposed to be one of those guys, but with a recent injury update, those chances could potentially be diminished.

Falcons News: Carlos Washington Out with Hamstring Injury

The Athletic's Josh Kendall reported on Tuesday that Carlos Washington will be out for at least a week with an apparent hamstring injury. Washington was signed to Atlanta's practice squad in 2023 and has since played in one game for the Falcons in 2024. With Jase McClellan's departure, Washington was predicted by many to make a leap in productivity and turn heads in the preseason. However, with this injury and the unknown severity of that, those chances could be at risk.

With the Falcons unsure of what the future holds with Tyler Allgeier, it would not be a stretch for them to potentially look into free agency. If they are able to find a better suitor for that RB3 role, Washington could face uncertainty for his roster spot. Hopefully, this injury will only sit him out a week, and he will be back and ready for the next preseason game for Atlanta when they play in Dallas on August 22.

Washington played for Southeastern Louisiana for one season and New Hampshire for three in his collegiate career. Though smaller schools, he had production to make up for it. He totaled 1,928 career rushing yards and averaged 4.9 yards/carry on those. He has talent and the ability to be that RB3 for Atlanta, and for cheap. At only 26 years old, he could be a long-term option to be depth for the team and be a reliable safety valve. However, if injuries continue to plague his playing time, Atlanta will have to explore other options in free agency.
