The Atlanta Falcons are heading into a 2026 season where it is very plausible that the third option at quarterback could be utilized in a game of meaning. While you always hope for health, it is hard to put together a more injury-prone quarterback room than the one that Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa form. Currently, Trevor Siemian is the team's third option as the veteran bounces to his 10th team in what has been an underwhelming career.
If the Falcons are forced to turn to their third option, it isn't likely to fall in their favor. Considering how likely this possibility is, the franchise should look to a loaded Los Angeles Rams team for a potential option at the position. Los Angeles has rostered Stetson Bennett despite having a clear level of interest in bringing back Jimmy G., if the quarterback doesn't opt for retirement, and already having drafted Ty Simpson.
With this in mind, there is a very real possibility that Bennett becomes the odd man out of the quarterback room and hands the Falcons an opportunity. Bennett isn't the most impressive athlete but is a two-time college champion and has looked solid in preseason action with the Rams in years past.
Falcons Should Consider Pontential Trade for Stetson Bennett Ahead of 2026 Season
Bennett is a far more interesting wildcard option than a veteran career backup who has had starting opportunities and proven he isn't up to the task. Los Angeles could be willing to punt on the signal caller for a day three pick and give the Falcons a fun option to consider if injuries strike or the current starting options don't perform at the expected levels.
These are very real possibilities when you look at the current roster construction and realize just how much of an uphill battle the Falcons have when it comes to meaningful contention. Atlanta could use at least a puncher's chance of finding a capable third option, and Siemian clearly doesn't present this.
Siemian has been forced into the lineup consistently and handed chances as a starter only to frustrate at every turn. You simply cannot put the veteran in the lineup and realistically have a chance to win no matter your matchup.
With this in mind, the Falcons should at least inquire about whether or not Bennett could be dealt and what the Rams might consider in exchange. It is a trade that simply makes far too much sense for both sides not to be considered over the next weeks of the preseason.
