TheAtlanta Falcons have remainedunable to answer quarterback concerns for the last half decade shuffling through a long list of underwhelming options. It doesn't appear that the 2026 season is set to be any different unless Michael Penix Jr. is able to take an unexpected leap and find a level of consistency that has evaded the signal caller through the first part of his career. With this in mind, Atlanta will be paying close attention to quarterback prospects as well as top signal callers around the league who could find their way to the trade market.
Joe Burrow has to be at the top of this list when you look at the potential ceiling of the quarterback and understand the punishment he has been allowed to take through the first years of his career. Burrow has dealt with a laundry list of injuries due to the inability of the offensive line to give the franchise quarterback a consistent chance.
If the Bengals were to allow Burrow to take consistent punishment in the 2026 season and miss the playoffs yet again, it is very much on the table that the quarterback's team could request a trade. It wouldn't be the first time we've seen a star force his way out of a bad situation, and Burrow's request would be above questioning if the Bengals missed the playoffs yet again.
Falcons Should Keep Close Eye on Joe Burrow as Trade Possibility Increases
This is where it is important to note that a great season from Burrow and the Bengals completely wipes away this possibility. Having Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase clearly gives the Bengals an advantage few teams roster and if they are able to ride this talent to a playoff berth and keeping Burrow healthy the quarterback isn't going to have a chance of hitting the trade market.
It is still worth keeping an eye on throughout the season, understanding the possible fit and just how drastically Burrow would change life in Atlanta. The Falcons have a great core of playmakers and an offensive line that is far more talented than anything the Bengals have offered in recent seasons.
Burrow in Atlanta is extremely unlikely to happen, but it is a situation at least worth keeping an eye on, given the clear fit. Having Burrow would hand the Falcons the NFC South as it currently sits and leave Atlanta with viable hopes of making a deep January run.
No question, of all the league's most talented quarterbacks, Burrow is the one with the best chance to hit the market and demands a certain level of attention from Atlanta in hopes that this might become a reality.
