The Atlanta Falcons had to have a difficult offseason due to financial constraints, resulting in the departures of several key contributors. Grady Jarrett and Drew Dalman will be especially missed, and the Falcons lacked the resources to improve the roster in other positions.
With the NFL Draft looming, the Falcons are in a challenging situation. They only have five picks in the draft, and two of them are seven-round picks. They have to nail their selections in the first two rounds to have any chance of adding difference-makers to the team in the immediate future.
One way to increase their chances in the draft is by adding more draft picks via trades. The first trade candidate that comes to mind is obviously Kyle Pitts.
Falcons Should Be Willing to Accept Any Trade Offer for Kyle Pitts
Pitts is entering the last year of his rookie deal. A hard decision awaits the Falcons, who risk letting their former first-round pick walk for nothing next offseason. While the talented tight end isn't at the peak of his trade value right now, the Falcons have no choice but to say goodbye.
After his excellent rookie campaign that earned him a Pro Bowl, Pitts didn't live up to the expectations. He finished last season with 602 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 17 games.
However, he should still have plenty of trade appeal. His physical and athletic tools are intriguing enough and he has shown enough so far in his career for a team to give up future assets to acquire him.
The Falcons may not get more than a fourth-round pick for a player entering the final year of his deal. At this point, they need to accept whatever they can get just to have more draft capital next week. Any day 3 pick (ideally two Day 3 picks) should be more than enough for GM Terry Fontenot to end the Kyle Pitts era in Atlanta.
