The Atlanta Falcons have been busy on Thursday with the legal tampering period on the horizon. The Falcons did not tender restricted free agents cornerback Dee Alford and linebacker Nate Landman, making them unrestricted free agents heading into the new league year.
However, the Falcons did make one signing for the 2025 season, which should solidify their special teams unit for the foreseeable future. Atlanta announced that they signed long snapper Liam McCullough to a four-year extension. Financial details for the extension were not disclosed.
The 27-year-old special teamer has been with Atlanta for the last three seasons after starting his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Las Vegas Raiders in 2020. McCullough was set to become an unrestricted free agent next week, but now he counts as the Falcons’ first signing before the free agency extravaganza begins.
The former undrafted free agent out of Ohio State has not missed a game with the Falcons over his three-year run, playing in all 51 games. Atlanta re-signed McCullough to a one-year deal after the 2022 season and made the same move following the 2023 campaign.
With the 27-year-old long snapper locked in for the next few years, the Falcons do not have to worry about their special teams unit for now.
Kicker Younghoe Koo is signed through 2026, while punter Bradley Pinion is entering the last year of his three-year deal that he signed in 2023. Pinion is tentatively scheduled to become a free agent in 2026.
That being said, Falcons fans are waiting to see what else the team does over the next few weeks. Atlanta has to find a way to get under the salary cap before the new league year begins. They must also upgrade the defense this offseason, and, hopefully find a suitor for veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins.
