The Atlanta Braves parted ways with a number of key 2024 contributors this past offseason, including turning the page on catcher Travis d'Arnaud. It was one of the most difficult decisions the Braves made, with the catcher being a popular player and a proven clutch performer. Still, it is a decision that aged perfectly after some early concerns. The emergence of Drake Baldwin has left little reason for the Braves to miss their former catcher.

Baldwin took advantage of Sean Murphy's early injury and has made it difficult for manager Brian Snitker to keep his bat out of the lineup. Atlanta now has a welcome problem as it attempts to figure out how to best manage the impressive duo. On the flip side, the Los Angeles Angels have grown frustrated with the lack of offensive production from d'Arnaud.

Former Atlanta Braves Catcher Travis d'Arnaud is Struggling Badly in His New Landing Spot

While the former Brave has never been a star offensive producer, things have regressed drastically. d'Arnaud is struggling to stay above the Mendoza line and frequently misses very hittable pitches. Joining former Braves Ron Washington and Jorge Soler in Los Angeles, the catcher was supposed to be a calming veteran presence, helping calm the Angels' staff.

The offensive struggles haven't impacted the catcher's defense, however, there is still reason for concern for Los Angeles. If the team were to part ways with the veteran, a reunion cannot be entirely ruled out. Whether it is putting the defensive liability of Marcell Ozuna in left field to put Baldwin at DH or having the rookie learn a new position, the Braves need to do everything reasonably possible to get his bat in the lineup.

With this in mind, if d'Arnaud's struggles continue to this level, the Angels could be forced to part ways with the veteran. If this happens, the Braves could consistently start Sean Murphy while finding a new role for Baldwin to play with d'Arnaud as the bench option. Regardless, it is a noteworthy former player who is continuing to struggle for a team that has become one of the more surprising stories in recent weeks. It is time for d'Arnaud to catch up to his team's improvement, or the veteran may find himself searching for a new landing spot.
