A familiar theme for the Atlanta Braves this season has been bringing back former players to attempt to capture their former production. Already, Craig Kimbrel, Ian Anderson, Jessie Chavez, and Chasen Shreve have been given that chance. More recently, the team demoted Jarred Kelenic and brought back Eddie Rosario for his third stint in Atlanta.

It wouldn't be at all surprising to see the Braves continue this path with another notable former Brave. Starter Charlie Morton departed Atlanta this past offseason, signing a one-year deal with Baltimore. The Orioles have quickly grown impatient with Morton's early-season struggles. The veteran has been demoted to the Baltimore bullpen and appears to be on his way out after a short Orioles tenure.

Braves Can Try to Attempt a Surprise Reunion With Charlie Morton

There is no defending Morton's lack of early production with the veteran's ERA north of 9.00 and having an underwhelming 0-6 record. It is very possible that this is the end of the road for an accomplished starter. However, when you're starting three question marks in Grant Holmes, Bryce Elder, and AJ Smith-Shawver, the Braves would be wise to keep an eye on the situation.

If Baltimore simply wants to bail on the deal, the veteran should be brought back to Atlanta. If there is nothing left in the tank, you've lost nothing but innings that were already being given to question marks. The Braves have a history of successful reclamation projects, with Alex Verdugo and Nick Allen serving as examples just from the first month of the 2025 season.

Morton is a respected piece of Atlanta's 2021 World Series run, and he remained an important contributor as he aged. While the dominance has left the veteran, he was still a reliable innings-eater who consistently gave Atlanta a chance to win. No matter whether the team attempts a reunion, the pitcher is a respected piece of team history.

With this in mind, the Braves should keep a close eye on the situation in Baltimore. While they cannot be willing to trade anything of note, the way things are going, Morton will soon be designated for assignment, likely giving Atlanta their shot at giving the veteran one last chance in Atlanta.
