Former Atlanta Braves catcher Alex Jackson has received another surprise opportunity thanks to a rash of injuries to the Baltimore Orioles roster. While injuries are never ideal they do provide chances for failing players like Jackson to breathe life back into their careers. This is the position the former Braves backstop finds himself in after being traded from the New York Yankees to Baltimore. The deal is underwhelming on its face only being noteworthy due to the fact it includes a former prospect.

Jackson was first drafted by the Seattle Mariners before being traded to Atlanta in exchange for Max Povse and Rob Whalen. The Braves quickly elevated the catcher with the veteran making his debut in the 2019 season. Veteran options and injuries blocked the Braves from fully exploring what the catcher could bring to the active roster. This ended with Atlanta trading the backstop for yet another Braves outfield addition in Adam Duvall.

Former Braves Catcher Alex Jackson Receives Unexpected Chance

Jackson helped set the stage for Atlanta's run to the 2021 World Series by helping the team acquire a key piece for the impressive run. Heading to Miami the veteran would spend a season with the Marlins before being dealt to the Milwaukee Brewers who would follow a similar path sending the catcher to the Tampa Bay Rays a season later.

This path would continue despite Jackson reaching free agency and signing in the Cincinnati Reds' minor league system. Getting traded this time to the New York Yankees who would in turn bring us to our latest move with Jackson landing with the Orioles. This isn't the first former Atlanta catcher the franchise has targeted this season bringing in Chadwick Tromp as a depth piece as well.

For Jackson, it is easy to argue this could be the last chance the veteran is going to get at meaningful innings. With how underwhelming the results have been there aren't going to be many Major League chances left if things don't improve. It is at least an interesting story to keep an eye on as Atlanta fans attempt to forget their own misery.
