Former Atlanta Braves pitcher Tyler Ferguson has hit another roadblock in his career.
On Monday, the ex-Braves hurler was optioned by the Athletics to the team's Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas. Ferguson more than earned the demotion, posting a 6.69 ERA and often appearing to be throwing batting practice to opposing hitters.

Former Braves Pitcher Tyler Ferguson Demoted to Triple-A by Athletics
For a team in the middle of an endless rebuild, things have to be truly dark to earn a demotion. The Athletics remain a mess of a roster and still have zero room for the career minor leaguer. However, Braves fans are in no position to judge the franchise based on the current state of their team.
At least the Athletics are bad by design, attempting a reset for the new city and what will be a bright future. Atlanta doesn't have this luxury, having an expensive roster with zero depth and veteran players consistently finding ways to underproduce. Still, parting ways with Ferguson has been one of the rare right decisions the Braves have made in the last handful of seasons. The pitcher was with the organization's minor league teams in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
After hitting free agency at the end of 2022, Ferguson has spent time with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Athletics. Ferguson would earn his first career save with the latter and have a handful of good moments despite the consistent struggles. The demotion was earned; however, based on a complete lack of other options, it won't be a difficult journey to get a second chance.
Ferguson simply needs to return to the minor leagues and prove he can make the needed adjustments. If this happens, the pitcher is likely to garner a second chance with the struggling franchise.
While it is interesting to check in on former Braves players, Atlanta is dealing with a massive problem in their own right. There are two liabilities in your rotation and a bullpen that has earned very little trust. All of this is setting up for the Braves to lose four of their last five games and leave little question that this is going to be a lost season based on underachieving pieces and a lack of depth.
