The Atlanta Braves' current playoff positioning speaks both to how rough the season has been and how surprisingly loaded the National League has become. What path the Braves are going to take at the trade deadline is quickly going to be decided in the next few weeks of the season. The same can be said of Atlanta's current opponent in the Arizona Diamondbacks. Two seasons removed from a surprise run to the World Series, the organization appears stuck in neutral. Unable to move clearly in either direction, the Diamondbacks, like Atlanta, are excelling in mediocrity.

A big piece of this has been offensive inconsistencies that could force the Diamondbacks to consider targeting a former player who was also an important piece of Atlanta's organization. Current Texas Rangers outfielder and designated hitter Joc Pederson could soon be moved. While the veteran slugger is currently on the shelf, a dismal start to the 2025 season all but demands the Rangers find a change of scenery.

Former Atlanta Braves Postseason Hero Joc Pederson Could Soon be on The Move

Both Arizona and Atlanta should have a healthy level of interest in the star if either are able to remain in the wildcard race. With this in mind, Pederson could find a reunion with one of his former teams. Regardless, it is clear Pederson is likely to be moved based on the answers the Rangers have found during the veteran's absence. Add in a .131 average, and the Rangers have every reason to move on and give the veteran a change of scenery.

For Atlanta, the idea of reuniting with Pederson makes sense as offensive contributions from Eli White and Alex Verdugo have faded. You're still close to a month away from Jurickson Profar returning from suspension, and have no idea what level of production you'll receive once the veteran does return.

With this in mind, the Braves should be reaching out to Texas to see what the team's asking price might be. It is desperation time for the organization, and a familiar theme has been reuniting with former players. Pederson deserves a chance to rebound, and Atlanta is in the perfect spot to give the veteran that chance.
