The 2025 season hasn’t gone to plan for the Atlanta Braves, who were hit hard by the injury bug on the mound, and didn’t get consistent production from their standout stars at the plate.

The Braves have tried to piecemeal things together on the mound and at the plate over the last few months, bringing in different players, but it’s been a disappointment, to say the least. Veteran reliever Scott Blewett was one of those players Atlanta brought in earlier this season, but they got rid of him in June via trade.

Blewett has spent the last four months with the Baltimore Orioles’ organization in his second stint this season, but they parted ways on Friday. The Orioles announced that the ex-Braves reliever was reinstated from the 60-day injured list and designated for assignment.

Scott Blewett Now Shown the Door by Orioles Twice This Season

The 29-year-old relief pitcher was placed on the 15-day injured list on July 13 with right elbow discomfort and eventually moved to the 60-day injured list on Aug. 26.

However, according to his player profile page on MLB.com, the Orioles sent the former Braves pitcher on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Norfolk. Blewett struggled at Triple-A, allowing 13 hits, six earned runs (one home run), and a walk, while recording three strikeouts in 6.1 innings (seven appearances/two starts).

Opponents were also hitting .464 at the plate off Blewett, which isn’t a good sign. When Blewett pitched in the big leagues with the Orioles, he had a 6.17 ERA in 13 appearances (1 start) and allowed opponents to hit .269 at the plate.

This was a slight difference from how Blewett was pitching with the Braves, where he had a 5.51 ERA across 11 relief appearances (one start). In Atlanta, opposing teams were hitting .267 and had an OPS of .888.

However, the veteran reliever didn’t give up a lot of hard contact, as his hard hit rate was 38.8%, which was the best of his career. But he got rocked in his final game with the Braves, allowing five earned runs.

With Blewett being DFA’d at this time of the year, the veteran will have to go through waivers to see if he gets claimed. If he doesn’t, the former Brave can decide to go into free agency, since he’s already been outrighted.
