Atlanta Braves fans will remember Shelby Miller from his lone season with the franchise in the 2015 rebuilding year. It was an ugly year when it came to wins and losses for a pitcher who was consistently durable and gave Atlanta's offense a chance. Still, the starter picked up 17 losses that season despite having a low ERA and consistently pitching deep into games.
Miller would leave Atlanta the following year and spend time with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Detroit Tigers.
Struggles consistently haunted the starter since leaving the Braves unable to provide a level of consistent production. However, Miller carved a new path into the league, converting it into a relief option. This led the veteran back to Arizona where he has been enjoying one of the best seasons of his career. It is a needed return to form for a player who appeared to be on his way out of the league prior to this production.
Former Braves' Starter Shelby Miller Hits Injured List
However, this return to form has hit a bit of a setback with a forearm strain putting the reliever on the injured list. It is a sad turn to what has been an exciting season for the former Braves starter. Seeing Miller be able to contribute at a high level at this stage of his career is a fun story. One Braves fans have plenty of time to pay attention to in what is a lost 2025 season for the franchise.
Miller should still be able to return and contribute this season, but won't be present for the most pivotal week thus far. The Diamondbacks are sitting on the fringes of wildcard contention and simply need a strong week against the San Diego Padres to keep hopes alive. Not having one of the team's most reliable arms is an unquestionably shot to these hopes.
Still, it is a great season for the former Braves right-hander. One that is going to open up plenty of opportunities in free agency and keep what has turned into a solid career rolling past the 2025 season.
