Former Atlanta Falcons defensive back Damontae Kazee has finally signed with a new team ahead of the 2025 season. According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Kazee has signed with the Cleveland Browns.

The former Falcons’ fifth-round pick has spent the last three years with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Last season, Kazee had 31 combined tackles, two pass deflections, and an interception in 15 games. He was more of a backup/reserve safety in 2024 after starting nine games in 2023.

Before joining the Steelers in 2022, the 31-year-old safety spent a year with the Dallas Cowboys in 2021. During that season, Kazee was a full-time starter. He produced 52 combined tackles, four pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions.

The veteran also fared well in pass coverage, possessing a 52.0 completion percentage allowed on targets and an 85.8 pass rating allowed when targeted, but gave up four receiving touchdowns.

Kazee began his NFL career in Atlanta, which took him with the 149th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He played in 16 games as a rookie but made one start. However, Kazee took a huge leap in his second year, which excited the Falcons’ fan base.

At the time, the young defensive back tallied 82 combined tackles, 10 pass deflections, seven interceptions (league-high), a forced fumble, and a tackle for loss.

Kazee didn’t get any league-wide recognition for his 2018 season, but followed it up with a good 2019 season. However, Kazee’s Falcons tenure ended on a sad note in 2020, as he only played four games due to a torn Achilles.

That was the last time Kazee donned an Atlanta jersey as he followed former Falcons head coach Dan Quinn to the Cowboys. The veteran defender might not be the same caliber of player he was in his early days, but he’s still a serviceable backup/reserve safety.
