The Atlanta Falcons have decided the Michael Penix. Jr. era is upon us, even though veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins remains on the roster as the league's highest-paid backup.
What happens with Cousins is anyone's guess; perhaps the front office can facilitate a trade involving him if any starters across the league get injured once the regular season kicks off. The possibility that he's holding a clipboard for the next four and a half months is very real as well.
What we can say for certain this Friday is that one of the recent members of the QB room in Atlanta is officially looking for a new job. According to Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com, former Falcons backup QB Logan Woodside has been cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of next Tuesday's mandatory cutdown day.
The Steelers announce they have cut 11 players:

Ex-Falcons QB Logan Woodside Cut by Second Team Since Leaving ATL
If you don't remember Woodside's pair of appearances over the two seasons he played in Atlanta, you likely aren't the only one. The journeyman signal-caller only recorded stats in one of those two appearances during the 2023 campaign, as Woodside connected on 3/4 pass attempts for 27 yards and an interception.
With Easton Stick and Ben DiNucci also on the roster in Atlanta, Woodside was always going to face an uphill battle when it came to making this team out of camp. Again, anything should be on the table when it comes to Kirk Cousins and his future with the Falcons. But allowing him to take meaningful snaps at any point.
Now, Woodside will hope to latch on with another franchise once more roster cuts are made. Heading to the Falcons' practice squad over one of the younger QB options mentioned above seems unlikely as well.
One way or another, these decisions will need to be made by Tuesday afternoon. That is, unless Atlanta is willing to do what few other teams do in this day and age of the NFL. Carry four quarterbacks on your Week 1 roster.
