The Atlanta Falcons prioritized the defensive side of the ball this offseason with their moves in free agency and the selections they made in the 2025 NFL Draft.
With several new faces joining the fold, there were plenty of departures from the 2024 roster as Raheem Morris looks to reshape this unit in a way that will make Atlanta a handful for opposing offenses.
One of those veteran defenders was able to latch on with his hometown team, but the likelihood of him surviving the final roster cuts, or even making it to training camp, isn't favorable.
Former Falcons DT Eddie Goldman Could Lose Job Before Training Camp
This past season, veteran defensive tackle Eddie Goldman was a regular starter up front for the Falcons' defense. It was a year that many fans never thought they would see from Goldman after he elected to retire from the NFL altogether just two weeks after initially agreeing to a contract with the franchise in 2022. His change of heart ultimately led to him playing one season in Atlanta, long after the front office had originally hoped to have him in the fold.
Now, he finds himself back home in the nation's capital after agreeing to a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders this offseason. Given the lack of production Goldman had during his stint with Atlanta, he recorded 16 total tackles and one quarterback sack in 17 games played, it is hard to think he will beat out the likes of Javon Kinlaw and Daron Payne for a spot in Washington's starting lineup.
As great a story as it is to see the hometown hero sign with the franchise he followed growing up, this fairy tale seems likely to end heartbreakingly with Goldman being released at some point between now and Week 1.
