The Atlanta Falcons attempted to fix last season's pass-rushing woes by trading for New England Patriots star Matthew Judon. To say the results were frustrating would be a wild understatement.

Judon's lack of production resulted in his effort being questioned and his snaps being lessened midway through the season. Still, Judon remained in the lineup due to the franchise simply lacking any other options. After the 2024 season ended, the veteran hit free agency without any hint of a reunion between the two sides. Remaining a free agent this late into the summer is telling of the rough season that was put together.

Another potential opportunity can now be taken off the list of landing spots with the Washington Commanders signing Von Miller. Having a Super Bowl MVP and established winner within the building is a great move for the franchise. One that has a chance to impact the roster beyond just the numbers. As Miller ages, his value comes in the ability to lead and help set the tone for his younger teammates.

Former Falcons Pass Rusher Matthew Judon Continues Free Agency Search

The Commanders were an interesting potential fit for Judon, giving the pass rusher a chance to breathe life back into his career. However, there is now zero question that the search is going to continue with one less team as a potential fit. Atlanta has turned the page as well, bringing in Leonard Floyd, Jalon Walker, and James Pearce Jr. Along with the return of Bralen Trice, this is enough to believe the group can improve and leaves little reason to consider a reunion.

Judon's best path is likely signing a bargain deal with a contending team, hoping to up his value with a late-season run. The Falcons don't fall under this description and are unlikely to have any interest in a reunion anyway. Adding Miller would have made sense for the Falcons, but no remaining free agent at the position offers the same type of fit.

The pass rusher must remain patient at this point, understanding that his only option is a bargain deal. With this in mind, it is important to find the perfect landing spot that has a chance to breathe life back into his career.
