Rookie minicamps occurred this weekend for multiple NFL teams, including the Seattle Seahawks. While these minicamps are for rookies to show why they should make the 90-man preseason roster, young players with limited NFL experience frequently receive invites, too. This year, the Seahawks extended such an invite to a former Atlanta Falcons third-round draft pick.
According to Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle, former Falcons offensive lineman Jalen Mayfield attended Seattles' minicamp. After failing with the Falcons, Mayfield has lots to prove if he wants to make an NFL roster again.

Former Falcons Draft Bust Jalen Mayfield Attended Seahawks Minicamp
In 2021, Atlanta drafted the former University of Michigan standout tackle with the 68th pick in the third round. However, the Falcons thought he fit better at guard in the NFL, so he made the transition. As a rookie, Mayfield allowed 11 sacks, 21 QB hits, 25 QB hurries and 57 QB pressures in 16 games, according to PFF.
That horrendous performance earned him a 27.6 pass blocking grade (122 out of 135). At the end of his rookie season, Mayfield suffered a back injury that lingered into 2022 and caused him to be put on injured reserve in 2022. Due to this, Atlanta ended up releasing him in August 2023.
Mayfield then spent the 2023 season on the New York Giants' practice squad. Although the team signed him to a futures contract at the end of the 2023 season, they waived him on the final roster cut day in 2024.
Given his failure to stick in both Atlanta and New York, Mayfield likely won't make the Seahawks roster. If he does, it may speak more to Seattle's offensive line issues than it does to his own play.
Meanwhile, Atlanta's rookie minicamp begins on May 9 and finishes on May 11. Falcons fans are excited to see what the 2025 rookie class will show in minicamp.
