The Atlanta Falcons' backfield is in great position for the 2025 season with Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier offering one of the best duos in the league. However, this isn't going to last with Allgeier slated to hit free agency at the end of the season.
Barring the back taking a shocking discount this is his final season with the organization. Allgeier has more than earned a shot at a starting job and has patiently dealt with sitting behind Robinson. With this in mind, the Falcons need to find a new secondary option behind the star back.
One candidate the Falcons had hoped to find was the recently released Jase McClellan. The Atlanta draft pick spent one season with the team before being released and continuing his search in free agency. Carlos Washington and Elijah Dotson are the current options behind the two featured backs But neither inspires confidence that the Falcons have found an answer moving forward. McClellan's release was a bit of a surprise for this reason. Despite struggling in limited action, the back was still young and offered upside.
Former Falcons Back Jase McClellan Remains a Free Agent
Considering how talented the position has become, it isn't shocking to see McClellan continue his free agency search. Nothing put on tape last season demands a second-chance or a camp invite. Still, there is reason to believe the former Falcon will find another landing spot based on the college experience and the lack of chance Atlanta offered in one season.
McClellan's lack of production could easily be blamed on the fact that he was only brought out in garbage time. The only carries on his resume were with the entire defense understanding the run up the middle was coming in an effort to run out the clock. This is going to be difficult for even the most talented of rookies to deal with. For a player as limited as McClellan, it doomed any chance of production and has resulted in a quiet free agency period.
It wouldn't be shocking to see the Falcons consider bringing the back into the preseason if Washington and Dotson don't inspire confidence. Regardless, it has been a frustrating search for McClellan.
