While the number of remaining free agents still available in the NBA is slowly dwindling, former Atlanta Hawks center Alex Len remains without a team for the upcoming 2025-26 NBA season. Len, who was with the Hawks from 2018 to 2020, ended this past season with the Lakers, following three and a half seasons in Sacramento with the Kings.

As the Hawks look to finalize their roster, GM Onsi Saleh could look at Len to fill depth in the frontcourt with a veteran presence. The team parted ways with Clint Capela in early July, upgrading the big man position in the three-team deal by acquiring veteran Kristaps Porziņģis.

This move, however, may have left a new hole in depth at the center position. Porziņģis was only available in 99 games over the last two seasons, missing 65 games, as well as missing 12 playoff games for the Celtics during that time due to various injuries and a reported illness.

Alex Len Could Be a Reunion Candidate for the Hawks

This would lead many to assume Porziņģis is unlikely to play the full 82-game season, something he hasn’t done in his career. Porziņģis played in a career-high 72 games in his rookie year with the New York Knicks in 2015-16. While Onyeka Okongwu would be the assumed starter, head coach Quin Snyder will need more depth to cover when Porziņģis inevitably misses time.

Len signed with Atlanta in 2018, securing a two-year $8.5 million contract, coming off a five-year stint with the Phoenix Suns, who drafted Len fifth overall in the 2013 NBA Draft out of Maryland. The Ukrainian national appeared in 117 games (40 starts) for Atlanta, averaging 10.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game before being traded to the Sacramento Kings in February of 2020.
