The Atlanta Braves could use reinforcements in left field after Jurickson Profar's suspension and the underwhelming production from their current options. Neither Eli White nor Mike Yastrzemski has lived up to expectations early in the season, putting a trade for an outfield option on the table. Looking at current options, it is important to remember the team's depth and payroll, two factors that lend themselves to thinking any deal will be for an expiring contract and not for one of the league's top targets.

These qualifiers could lead the Braves to a familiar face with Joc Pederson offering a clear, interesting fit for Atlanta. Pederson's contract is expiring this season, and the Texas Rangers currently sit a game under .500, increasing the possibility they will look for a deal ahead of this year's trade deadline.

Adding Pederson would allow the Braves to platoon Mauricio Dubon, Ha-Seong Kim, and Pederson with Yastrzemski moving into a pinch-hitting bench role and White facing demotion. While Pederson has primarily been used as a designated hitter, the veteran remains a viable left field option.

For the Braves, it would be a reunion with a familiar face as Pederson was a huge part of the 2021 World Series run. Not only did the Atlanta outfielder foresee the team's championship run, but he backed up his words with key homers in both the NLDS and the NLCS, helping push the Braves to the next level.

Braves Should Explore Reunion with Joc Pederson if Left Field Struggles Continue

It isn't only the possible production the Braves could benefit from adding, but Pederson's unique energy. The veteran brings an edge to any roster he joins, and Atlanta has already seen the benefits from this in the 2021 season. Now that the price is reasonable and Pederson is on an expiring contract, a deal could make sense for both sides.

Dubon could be the team's right-handed option in left while Pederson is utilized both at DH and in left field. The only thing that could derail this is if Dominic Smith continues to produce at an unexpected level. The left-handed hitter has been a great option against right-handed pitching as a designated hitter, making the addition of Pederson a bit less likely with the team looking at right-handed options if Smith's production continues.

Still, it is a fit that should be monitored with the Rangers slipping in the wrong direction and Pederson's clear history in Atlanta. There should be enough interest for the Braves to begin considering the move and look at the possible cost of what would be an exciting reunion.
