The Atlanta Hawks have made subtle changes to their roster through the first two weeks of NBA free agency.

The Hawks handed out a sizable contract to free agent guard Nickeil Walker-Alexander, signing him to a four-year, $60.6 million deal. They also signed free-agent sharpshooter Luke Kennard to a one-year, $11 million contract.

However, that wasn’t the only move that Atlanta made. The Hawks were also involved in the huge seven-team trade that included Kevin Durant. In that trade, Atlanta received a 2031 second-round pick, cash, and a player who was recently with the club.

Hawks Quickly Part Ways With David Roddy for Second Time

That player was David Roddy, who Hawks fans might be vaguely familiar with as he spent the first part of the 2024-25 season in Atlanta. But the Hawks parted with the young forward in February.

On Monday, Atlanta decided that they weren’t going to do a second stint with the 24-year-old forward as they requested waivers on him.

The former Colorado State star didn’t do much in his brief run with the Hawks. Roddy averaged 4.5 points and 2.6 rebounds per game in 27 games (three starts). After Atlanta parted ways in February, Roddy played with the Philadelphia 76ers and Houston Rockets.

He received a 10-day and two-way deal from the 76ers, but Philadelphia moved on at the start of March. From there, the Rockets gave the former first-round pick another chance, inking him to a two-way deal.

Roddy played three games with the Rockets and 15 with their NBA G League affiliate, Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Roddy’s stats with the Rockets were very similar to his time with the Hawks, as he averaged 4.3 points and 1.7 rebounds per game.

Nonetheless, the ex-Hawks forward will hope to land another opportunity in the coming days and weeks as NBA Summer League is underway. NBA teams can roster up to three two-way slots, which gives Roddy an ample chance to play in the NBA or G League next year.
