The 2025 MLB trade deadline is less than a week away, and Atlanta Braves fans are intrigued to see what the front office has in store. In what's been a rocky season that would even leave the biggest rollercoaster-lovers sick, the Braves own an underwhelming 44-57 record with six days to go before the deadline, positioning them to be potential sellers in the coming days.
Although they probably won't trade away any franchise cornerstones, the Braves could look to recoup some cash or a prospect by moving veterans on expiring contracts. After all, it makes sense for Atlanta to get something back for a pending free agent rather than losing them for nothing in the winter.
With that in mind, Braves fans shouldn't be shocked if a certain veteran reliever isn't with the club anymore once the trade deadline passes.
Braves RHP Raisel Iglesias Won't Be in Atlanta After Trade Deadline
The Braves faithful were excited to see what Raisel Iglesias could do heading into the 2025 MLB season. The veteran closer was coming off an impressive 2024 performance that saw him pitch to a 1.95 ERA with 34 saves and a career-best 0.736 WHIP in 66 appearances, all while holding opposing batters to a .160/.211/.248 slash line.
Unfortunately, Iglesias didn't come close to matching that performance to begin the season. Through his first 25 games, the 35-year-old righty went 3-5 with a 6.75 ERA and only eight saves (4 blown opportunities). He's since turned things around with a 2.30 ERA and 21 strikeouts across his last 15 2/3 innings; however, that might not be enough to secure him a long-term roster spot with the Braves.
Given that his play is on the upswing, it makes sense for the Braves to strike while the iron is hot. World Series contenders are constantly looking for ways to bolster their bullpen, especially before the trade deadline, meaning a playoff-bound team could be willing to roll the dice on Iglesias' current form if they're convinced the worst is in the rearview mirror.
Iglesias has provided Braves fans with some decent moments, but it's clear that his best days are behind him. He's only going to get older, meaning that his play will likely continue to decline. Atlanta may as well get some value out of him before the trade deadline, and that'll be even truer if they're against re-signing him in the offseason.
At the end of the day, it won't be long until Braves fans know what the future holds for Iglesias. This year's MLB trade deadline will go into effect at 6 p.m. ET on July 31.
