TheAtlanta Braves have just under a monthof the regular season remaining and hope they are setting up for a deep October run. Regardless, it is impossible not to look towards the future and wonder whether or not this will include outfielder Jurickson Profar. The onced prized free agency addition missed half of the 2025 season due to a suspension for ignoring the league's banned substance list. Fast forward to spring training, and Profar would be yet again put on suspension for ignoring the rules.
Due to being a multi-time offender, Profar would miss the entire 2026 season and be unable to contribute to any potential postseason run. With this in mind, it is easy to argue that the Braves should attempt to dump the final year of Profar's deal and not rely on a left field option who has proven to be a liability.
Profar's lack of care when it comes not only to his own career but also in putting his team in danger, makes it clear that next season the veteran cannot be relied on, and if the Braves get the opportunity, a salary dump should be considered. While Profar is two years removed from consistently being in the lineup, it will be far easier to potentially trade an expiring deal.
Braves Have Difficult Decision to Make When Debating Jurickson Profar's Future
Atlanta parting ways with both Profar and Mike Yastzemski should be under consideration when you look at the combined salaries and the fact that it would likely open up the ability to add a star presence in left field. The counter to this is looking at the ceiling of the team's offense and considering what the best version of Profar could bring to the unit. No question, it is a decision that could be argued in either direction as the Braves look to maintain its window of contention.
Profar's most recent full season was in 2024 with the San Diego Padres, when the veteran hit .280 and drove in 85 runners while offering consistent power numbers. No question, this at least is going to require the front office to have a debate considering the clear potential of the veteran vs. attempting to rely on a player who hasn't shown up in recent years.
Fan focus understandably remains on the path ahead and the ceiling this roster could reach over the next two months. Still, it is hard not ot look ahead and consider the potential impact of Profar and whether or not the team would be wise to attempt to turn the page.
