The Atlanta Falcons made several undrafted free agent signings on the heels of the 2026 draft, with arguably the most notable being offensive lineman Kam Dewberry. Part of what makes the guard such an interesting addition is Atlanta's lack of proven offensive line depth behind their starters, as well as a highly-paid deal that gives Dewberry a better chance to get noticed. The Alabama product was given $262,500 in guarantees, lending reason to believe the prospect has a better chance of sticking around than some of his peers.

While this doesn't erase the fact that it will be an incredible uphill battle for Dewberry to make the roster, the possibility remains. Atlanta's current starting guards are Chris Lindstrom and Matthew Bergeron, with zero chance of either piece being replaced in the starting lineup. Dewberry's possible opening can be found on the bench, where Kyle Hinton and Ethan Onianwa serve as the team's depth pieces at the position.

Neither player has an established resume, leaving the door open for Dewberry to turn heads with a standout summer, potentially leading to a surprise roster spot. Even if the lineman isn't able to make the initial roster, the high-dollar contract for an undrafted rookie suggests a practice squad position at the very least.

It should also be factored in that the lineman is emerging from the respected college program in Alabama, which offers additional upside. It will be interesting to see whether the Falcons can turn this developmental project into anything more than a camp presence, giving fans something to follow throughout the summer.

Falcons Fans Should Keep an Eye on UDFA Signing Kam Dewberry

Dewberry has a clear path to fight for a depth spot, even if he is starting at a clear disadvantage. Atlanta has far less investment in the undrafted prospect, despite his deal being on the higher side of most undrafted rookie signings. The fact that there is still so little on the line for the Falcons drives home the fact that it will take an incredible summer and preseason for Dewberry to make the roster.

With this in mind, fans should pay attention over the next few weeks, as rookie minicamps begin the long journey to training camp, to see whether Dewberry can take steps forward within the organization. It would be a fun story for a franchise badly in need of surprise contributors after dealing with limited cap space due to the Kirk Cousins' contract and lacking their own first-round selection due to the James Pearce Jr. trade an offseason ago.

Every possible surprise contributor will be given an opportunity, including the young lineman, who will have a chance to fight for a depth role. This leaves fans with a clear name to pay attention to on a roster that continues to shuffle ahead of the 2026 season.
