The NBA offseason has been full of surprises, but things are just getting started as LeBron James has yet to decide where he'll play next season. There are several teams in the race for James, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors, and Minnesota Timberwolves, and every one of them has a good case to sign him.

The Atlanta Hawks have not once been mentioned in the running for James, and it makes sense, as they're looking to build and develop the roster they currently have. It would have been big if James considered the Hawks as an option, but it's obvious he's looking for a team that is already championship-ready. Atlanta's young core is likely a disqualifier in this case, as James is looking for a chance to make one last run.

The Hawks don't have a dog in this fight, but there are a few options that James has on his list that could affect the Hawks next season. Any Eastern Conference team that he decides to sign with can have some implications for the Hawks, and they may be keeping an eye on where he decides to sign as the offseason continues.

Things change for the Hawks if LeBron James comes back to the East

The Hawks finished as the No. 6 seed in the East last season, and the goal is to always be better than the year before. Teams such as the Heat and 76ers finished below the Hawks last season, but with the moves they've made this offseason, they could find themselves climbing the standings.

The Heat traded for Giannis Antetokounmpo, while the 76ers traded for Jaylen Brown. Add James to either one of those teams, and they instantly turn into championship favorites overnight. That will only make the East more competitive, which means the Hawks are going to have to come with their A-game every night.

As for the Cavaliers, they finished above the Hawks last season and even made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals. They were already a really good team, and adding James could help them get over the hump.

The Hawks should know that the East will be even tougher next season, regardless of where James goes. To be the best, you have to beat the best, and the Hawks will try to put themselves in that position not just next season, but beyond, while undeniably hoping James isn't in their way.
