The Atlanta Braves have consistently dealt with an up-and-down situation in left field, with Mike Yastrzemski being the obvious cause of these frustrations. The veteran outfielder was zero for his last nine plate appearances heading into Sunday's series finale, pointing to the obvious frustrations that could have Atlanta considering a potential blockbuster trade target. It is important to note that if the Braves do opt to add to the position, it is going ot need to be an established hitter, not a player that could add to the current confusion.

With this in mind, Byron Buxton remains a logical target for the Braves and would perfect fit into Atlanta's current roster. Buxton is hitting .257 with 18 home runs and 41 runs scored, pointing to the great offensive value the veteran is providing. Diving in just a tad bit deeper, Buxton is hitting .276 against left-handed starters, helping complete Atlanta's left field rotation.

The only obvious downside is the fact that Buxton has offered only one of his 18 home runs against left handers, pointing to the balance in offense. Adding Buxton would be less about utilizing a split and more so putting the veteran outfielder into a starting role with Yastrzemski as an occasional start or a pinch-hitting option.

Braves Should Consider Trading for Twins Star Outfielder Byron Buxton

Atlanta's farm system is deeper than in recent seasons and should give the team enough room to make at least one high-impact move without depleting its depth. For Buxton, the price should be reasonable based on the limited offensive ceiling and the $15 million the Braves would be saving the Minnesota Twins in each of the next two seasons. This would need to be factored in as well, with it being possible that the Braves prefer to go the rental route.

Still, Buxton's speed and ability to impact the game both with his glove and on the bases make the fit interesting enough for the front office to explore. Yastrzemski's recent lack of offense also reopens the door to aggressively exploring potential upgrades.

While both Mauricio Dubon and Jorge Mateo have outfield experience, utilizing either utility piece in left field takes away from the ability of manager Walt Weiss to ride with the hot hand at shortstop. It simply makes far too much sense for the Braves to at least explore the potential cost of adding Buxton, understanding the obvious problems that it would solve moving deeper into the 2026 season.
