After the failure of the 2024-25 season, it is clear the Atlanta Hawks must make a splash, proving the team can finally turn the corner. There is no player possibly hitting the market with a higher ceiling than Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. This is far from a hot take with the Bucks star already being an MVP and NBA Finals champion. Every team looking to compete is going to have a level of interest if the star does opt to move away from his franchise.
The Hawks' interest in Giannis is well-established, with a previous front office and coaching staff falling in love with the prospect. Atlanta did everything in its power to make sure the future star would be on the board when the team's number was called. However, this obviously didn't work out, remaining one of the biggest what-ifs in franchise history.
Hawks Could Finally Land Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2025 Offseason
Now, the Hawks have a chance to once again chase the star, and this time write a different ending. It isn't difficult to imagine the damage a Trae Young and Giannis pairing would inflict on the rest of the Eastern Conference. It is unquestionably the time to move your chips to the center of the table, with Jayson Tatum's injury likely ruining the Celtics' chances of contending next season.
This leaves the conference up for grabs with the Hawks simply needing to find Trae a fitting co-star. It is impossible to find another player who would fit so perfectly with the Atlanta point guard. Having an elite threat around the rim and on the inside adds the intensity the franchise lacks, as well as adding an elite rebounder and shot creator.
Everything about the star's game fits hand-in-hand with Trae when the point guard is at his absolute best. It demands that the Hawks are extremely active in trade talks and are willing to consider parting ways with pieces of their young core to get a potential deal done.
While Atlanta doesn't have the treasure trove of draft picks other teams can offer, the team does have one clear advantage. The Bucks lack their own picks, giving the team zero reason to consider tanking even if they do trade the franchise star. This means Atlanta's offer of limited picks and young building blocks is perhaps far more enticing than what other teams might offer. Regardless, it is a deal the Hawks must attempt to chase in a pivotal 2025 offseason.
