One of the Atlanta Braves offseason attempts at finding bullpen answers was signing Buck Farmer. The veteran relievers appeared to be great minor league depth while having an outside chance of making the Opening Day roster. With underwhelming spring training numbers, the Braves opted to give the veteran a chance to figure things out with Gwinnett. This didn't play out as hoped with Farmer struggling to the point the Braves decided to release the reliever. It didn't come as a surprise with Farmer's one strong year being the outlier of his career. Opting to release him was the right move even with the team's desperation for bullpen production.

Farmer has had an interesting career path, first starting his career with the Detroit Tigers. It was an up-and-down tenure defined by consistent demotions and spot starts, with Farmer being an option at the back end of the bullpen. The veteran would leave the Tigers and spend time with the Rangers, Reds, Braves, and Angels before being released by both of his last two teams during the middle of a minor league stint.

Former Braves' Reliever Buck Farmer Handed a Second Chance

The Braves and Angels both came to the same conclusion despite both teams badly needing bullpen help. If you're anything close to a capable option it isn't going to be difficult to make either roster. With this in mind, it is truly concerning the lack of production Farmer has consistently offered in the 2025 season. If things are going to turn around, it needs to be at the next landing spot.

Despite the struggles, Farmer has already found a landing with the Reds on a minor-league deal. It makes sense for Cincy to show a level of interest when you consider it is where Farmer enjoyed his best seasons. Putting the veteran back into the system that brought out his best results is a solid move for both sides.

With the Reds still dealing with low expectations, it isn't a high-pressure situation for a pitcher who obviously needs to take a step back. Farmer has been handed one last chance to turn the 2025 season around and prove there is still something left in the tank.
