3 Teams Foolish Enough to Trade for Kirk Cousins

These three teams might be foolish enough to trade for the veteran QB after a horrible 2024 season in Atlanta.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers

With the Steelers having $44 million in cap space, it would not be surprising to see the Falcons give them a call about Cousins. Pittsburgh currently has no plan on what they will do at QB as Russell Wilson and Justin Fields will be unrestricted free agents in March.

Wilson did not play his best football down the stretch as the Steelers lost their last six games, including their playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Meanwhile, Fields started Pittsburgh’s first six games of the 2024 season, leading them to a 4-2 record. On the surface, the best option for the Steelers is to re-sign the younger quarterback in Fields or draft a quarterback.

However, things did not go well the last time the Steelers drafted a quarterback (Kenny Pickett in 2022). Therefore, with Mike Tomlin looking to win and stay competitive in the AFC North, the Steelers could be the perfect team to take a chance on Cousins.

According to Over The Cap, the Steelers have $53.2 million in cap space for 2025, just the right amount to bring in the former Vikings QB. If the Steelers were to trade for Cousins foolishly, they would need to do much better in adding talent to the WR room.

This past season, the Steelers willfully neglected the WR2 spot and thought they could get by with Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin III, and Mike Williams. That did not work out, as teams focused their coverage around George Pickens.

And unlike Wilson and Fields who have some mobility, Cousins does not have that, making him a sitting target in the pocket if no one is open. No one knows what the Steelers will do at the quarterback spot this offseason, making the idea of Cousins landing in the Steel City very plausible.
