The Atlanta Falcons haven't made a ton of big splashes this offseason, as they don't have as much money to play with.
A lot of news has been about what the Falcons will do with QB Kirk Cousins but they also have another big decision to make around WR Drake London. Atlanta has until May 1st to pick up his fifth-year option. If they don't, they risk losing to free agency next offseason.
The Falcons drafted London with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to become the No. 1 WR and he answered the call with flying colors. In 50 career games, he finished with 241 catches for 3,042 receiving yards, and 15 touchdowns. Last season, he posted his first 1,000-yard campaign and looks the part of a true focal point of the passing attack. In addition, he logged three straight seasons with 100-plus targets.
The Falcons handed over the reins to Michael Penix Jr. last season and he needs a reliable outlet in the passing game. The offense already has Bijan Robinson as a foundational piece but London is the type of playmaker that is needed on the outside.
The WR market is also one of the fastest-growing ones in the league. Eight receivers in the league are making $30-plus million a year and that number will certainly continue rising. While an extension is a real conversation Atlanta needs to have around London, picking up his fifth-year option is a no-brainer.
Tight end Kyle Pitts is heading into the final year of his rookie deal and needs an excellent 2025 season in order to stick around. Mooney is on the books for the 2025 and 2026 seasons but that isn't anything long-term.
London has provided Atlanta with exactly what it needed in the passing game and the Falcons would be dumb not to pick up his fifth-year option and then hammer out an extension shortly after.
