The Atlanta Falcons are entering the 2026 season with a familiar theme of quarterback uncertainty. Whether Michael Penix Jr. will be ready for the regular season and able to stay healthy whenever he does return remains a question mark. There is also the fact that Tua Tagovailoa was brought in and could quickly find his way into the starting lineup. Regardless of who the starter is, Atlanta's ceiling will be determined by its defense and playmakers.

Neither quarterback has shown the ability to carry a team to relevance, putting pressure on the Falcons' front office to put together an incredibly strong roster. With this in mind, the franchise should attempt to sign veteran free agent WR Tyreek Hill as fallout from the draft continues. Having Hill's speed is the perfect final piece in an offense that would have a real chance to be a contender in the NFC.

Drake London and Kyle Pitts are both great options, but neither is known for taking the lid off the defense by winning on deep balls. The Falcons attempted to address this by drafting receiver Zachariah Branch, but he is still a rookie pass catcher, and that comes with uncertainty. This leaves Olamide Zaccheaus and Jahan Dotson as the remaining options at receiver.

All of this paints a clear picture of a team that is missing one final piece if they are going to support a questionable quarterback situation. Hill has proven himself capable of contributing at an elite level even when the quarterback situation is far from perfect. There is also the existing chemistry with Tua, as the duo spent the previous four seasons together on the Miami Dolphins.

Falcons Must Sign Tyreek Hill After Draft Fallout Leaves Obvious Need

Hill missed the bulk of the 2025 season due to injury, but the year before offered 959 receiving yards and led the league in receiving in 2023. No question, even this version of Hill is a player who will have a major impact and push the Falcons closer to relevance.

The reason to sign Hill can be boiled down to the fact that questionable depth at receiver won't elevate a quarterback situation that remains a frustration. If Atlanta is going to make the playoff field for the first time since 2017, it will require exactly this type of move.

The Falcons need one last star addition to feel like they have a chance to compete in a wide-open NFC South and become a clear NFC threat. Signing Hill accomplishes this and gives fans a move to build excitement around in what has been an otherwise average offseason. No question, the receiver is the perfect fit for Atlanta and should be a move the team seeks.
