The Atlanta Dream have gone through a mini-slump over the past few games, but that doesn't diminish the fact that they have players performing well. Unfortunately, those players were not recognized as All-Star starters, but they were able to get in as reserves.
Angel Reese, Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray were three players selected from the Dream as reserves, and it makes perfect sense when looking at what they've accomplished so far this season. All three have played different roles for the team, and when you put everything together, you have a team that is hard to stop on any given night.
Just like all three ladies have different roles, it's one player who has put them in a position to succeed.
Jordin Canada has been running the offense like a true point guard this season, and it's no surprise, as she's a proven veteran in the league. With all the talent around her, she has to manage getting everyone involved while also creating shots for herself, and she's been doing it at a high level this season.
Jordin Canada should've be an All-Star reserve for the Dream
Canada may be an unsung hero to the rest of the league, but everyone around the Dream knows the impact that she's had on the team. The stats prove it as well, as she's averaging 7.0 assists per game, which is fourth in the WNBA. Not only does Canada affect the game on offense, but she knows how to make an impact on defense.
Canada is averaging 2.0 steals per game, which is the third-best in the league. Those two stats alone should've put her in consideration as a reserve for the All-Star Game. The league may have thought that having four players on the team in the All-Star Game might be a lot, but if you have the numbers, you have the numbers.
There is still a chance that Canada is considered a reserve, with Kelsey Plum still recovering from her injury. If she's not able to play, the commissioner will find someone to replace her. It might be a tough decision for her to make, but Canada should be at the top of the list.
