It seemed the Atlanta Falcons and tight end Kyle Pitts were destined to part ways at the end of the 2025 season. After exploding onto the scene with a 1,000-yard performance as a rookie, Pitts has been trending in the wrong direction ever since. Expectations were never met, and no matter the coach or quarterback combination PItts had become an afterthought in Atlanta's offense.

Something that has changed down the stretch of the 2025 season, with Pitts all of a sudden coming to life and giving Atlanta reason to consider re-signing him. Not only has the pending free agent remained engaged as a blocker, but the production has skyrocketed, with the tight end totaling 395 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 31 catches over the last four weeks.

That kind of production would put him on pace for a 132-1,679-17 stat line in a 17-game season. Although Pitts would likely struggle to maintain that success for a whole schedule, Atlanta can't afford to ignore what he's doing in a contract year.

In other words, he's gone from being an afterthought to someone who could be a key part of the Falcons' offensive plans moving forward.

Kyle Pitts Deserves a New Falcons Contract

Watching this version of Pitts has to completely change the mindset of Atlanta's front office when it comes to the tight end's pending free agency. Already, they're likely to lose RB Tyler Allgeier, who is slated to hit free agency as well and is likely to earn a starting job elsewhere. With this in mind, the Falcons all of a sudden should have a sense of urgency to re-sign a player who appeared to be on his way out after three years of frustrations.

A piece of the breakout season from Pitts has been the fact that Drake London has dealt with an injury that kept the receiver sidelined for a trio of games. This opened up the chance for Cousins to lean on Pitts and for their chemistry to grow. It's paid off so far, leaving Falcons fans to want more of the same in the future.

Atlanta has very few impact free agents scheduled to hit the market, with Pitts by far being the most important offensive re-signing. It is an earned re-signing, and one the Falcons should be in a position to give based on the past seasons of inconsistency.

Teams shouldn't line up to pay top-dollar for a player that has two solid seasons and three underwhelming years. However, the Falcons have reason for reassurance, understanding now how to best utilize Pitts and seeing that the tight end is more than capable of stacking great games.

With this in mind, signing Pitts should be near the top of Atlanta's priority list, only weeks after appearing likely to part ways. It is important to keep Pitts and London together, giving Atlanta's offense stability as they head into another questionable quarterback situation in the 2026 offseason.
