It is the exact level of hitter that would solidify the middle of Atlanta's lineup and hand the franchise a needed level of stability, one that would clearly put the Braves back in control of the division and support a rotation that has stumbled a bit in recent days. No question, Alvarez should be at the very top of Atlanta's potential list of targets.

What makes adding Alvarez so appealing as well is the fact that you're not paying for a rental that will walk away after one season. Team control remains through 2028, giving the Braves reason to make the move beyond just the impact of the final two months of the season. You also have the benefit of a veteran slugger who has no shortage of postseason experience. Houston leaned on Alvarez in a handful of postseason runs, making the potential October impact clear.
For the Braves, the question simply comes down to how much the team believes in its 2026 future and what they're willing to spend. This should be an obvious answer due to the hot start the team enjoyed and the level of talent that remains rostered.
It is time for Atlanta to push its chips to the center of the table and make needed improvements that allow the franchise to survive injuries without stumbling at the level they have over the last month of the season.
Alvarez isn't fixing all of Atlanta's problems, but the veteran goes a long way in correcting current lineup concerns and helps right the ship. Once the roster is healthy again, the veteran will prove to be the final needed piece capable of pushing the Braves on another World Series run.
