Todd Gurley, Ramik Wilson named preseason All-Americans by Sports Illustrated
By Brad Rowland
Each year, FanSided partner Sports Illustrated chooses its preseason All-America teams, and the 2014 edition has been released by the well-regarded organization. Fans of the Georgia Bulldogs will be pleased with two of the first team selections, as both running back Todd Gurley and linebacker Ramik Wilson have been selected with top honors.
Here is what SI had to say about Gurley:
"Bulldogs back rushed for 989 yards and 10 touchdowns last fall despite missing three games with an ankle injury."
And Wilson:
"First-team All-SEC selection led the league with 133 tackles, including 18 in a 43-38 loss to Auburn."
It should be no surprise that either player was chosen, as some believe that Gurley is a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate if he can stay upright, and Wilson was an obvious choice given his perch as the leading returning tackler in the best conference in America. Still, Wilson has battled injury issues throughout training camp, and Gurley has never been the picture of health during his time in Athens.
Mark Richt, Jeremy Pruitt and company are blessed with an extremely talented roster, but Todd Gurley and Ramik Wilson are the cream of the crop on their respective units, and Sports Illustrated got it right in this particular case.
