Report: Dominique Wilkins interested in buying Atlanta Hawks

It has been a wild few days surrounding the Atlanta Hawks, between controversy surrounding current GM Danny Ferry and the bombshell concerning Bruce Levenson that set off the entire chain of events, and there is no end in sight. However, a more positive story has emerged from the somewhat unlikely source of TMZ Sports, and it pertains to legendary former Hawk Dominique Wilkins and potential interest in purchasing the team.

Here is a snippet from the report:

"Multiple NBA sources tell us … Dominique is “extremely interested” in becoming the next owner of the Hawks — and has already been pre-approved for ownership by the NBA.We’re told Wilkins — who has amassed his own small fortune over the years — has partnered up with a “very well-known businessman” who believes Wilkins would be the best person to lead the Hawks back to NBA glory."

First, it must be noted that in any scenario, Wilkins would almost assuredly be a part of a larger ownership group, as the general consensus would indicate that he does not have the financial means to purchase the team on his own. However, the best player in franchise history (at least in terms of the Atlanta portion) as an owner would certainly help in bolstering what is a struggling brand, and Dominique Wilkins is synonymous with all sorts of positives on the basketball court in Atlanta.

What do you think of this possibility? Does it excite you as an Atlanta Hawks fan or simply as a resident of the city? Give us your thoughts in the comments!
