Georgia Bulldogs vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets: Basketball Preview

Basketball season is here, and this season, the Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have elected to tip off the season in style with their annual battle on the hardwood doubling as the season opener for both teams. This year’s clash will take place at Georgia Tech’s McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta, and as usual, the winner will be off and running with a great deal of momentum as they enter the season.

Earlier in the week, we provided full-length previews for both the Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets, but in summing up their early season indications, perception is mixed. Georgia returns a great deal of their core from a 20-win team in 2013-2014, but Kenny Gaines is a question mark as he returns from mononucleosis, and as a result, the Dawgs are not operating at full strength. On the other hand, Brian Gregory and the Yellow Jackets lost a great deal from last year’s team (i.e. Daniel Miller, Trae Golden and others) and will be attempting to supplement this year’s club with veteran transfers.

Our pals in Vegas currently have the Yellow Jackets as 2-point favorites in this game, likely due to the “friendly” venue for Georgia Tech. The great Ken Pomeroy (proprietor of KenPom.com) has projected a slim, 1-point win for Georgia Tech as well, but given the nature of this rivalry, virtually no result would be surprising, and if you subscribe to the “veteran team early in the season” theory, there could be a lean toward Georgia.
