Georgia Tech vs. Miami preview: Can the Jackets snap the skid?
By Brad Rowland
Seven-game losing streaks are never fun, but this one comes at an especially difficult time for Brian Gregory and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Earlier in the week, we examined the central issue for the team this season, but the schedule doesn’t exactly slow down in ACC play, and the Ramblin’ Wreck are in South Florida on Wednesday evening for a tough road test against the Miami Hurricanes.
The Jackets enter as a 9-point underdog, according to KenPom’s predictive formula, and that should not come as a surprise. Georgia Tech currently falls outside the top 300 (!) nationally in both effective field goal percentage (44.4%) and 3-point percentage (25.6%), and against a Miami team with veterans that happens to be playing in its own back yard, that doesn’t spell out a quality recipe.

If there is a bright spot for Georgia Tech, it has come up front with Charles Mitchell, DeMarco Cox and Marcus Georges-Hunt, and that trio must have a big game for the road team to seriously compete for a streak-snapping victory. Miami is coming off one of their best wins of the season, with a victory over Syracuse on the road, and if you are a fan of the Yellow Jackets, you are rooting for a letdown.
Falling to 0-8 in ACC play would be disastrous, but we’re probably already there. Georgia Tech is now the final “power 5” team that stands winless in conference play, and a victory here would quiet the doubters for at least one evening.
