The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets picked up a rare win tonight against the Clemson Tigers tonight 63-52, on the strength of a career-performance from Josh Heath.

The sophomore guard shot 4-for-5 from the field in 22 minutes off of the bench and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line to lead the Jackets in scoring and help improve the team’s record to 3-11 in the ACC.

With Heath’s efforts, Georgia Tech had a surprisingly good night shooting the basketball–the team made 46.3 percent of its field goals, which is significantly better than their 41.3 percent season average.

In addition to Heath, Demarco Cox and Marcus Georges-Hunt had solid offensive performances, scoring 12 and 11 points respectively. Cox was a rebound shy of a double-double and made six of his eight shots on the night, while Georges-Hunt shot 5-for-8 from the field and made one of his two 3-point attempts in addition to turning the ball over four times.

While the Jackets turned the ball over 15 times in this one, Heath didn’t have a single one and picked up three steals and three assists to go along with his scoring on the night.

Meanwhile, the Clemson Tigers shot just 36.4 percent against Georgia Tech, which included going 4-for-15 from beyond the arc.

It’s nice to see the Jackets get a win tonight, because this weekend they’ll face another strong ACC opponent in North Carolina after a matchup with rival Duke Wednesday night. In the Dean Smith Center, the Jackets will need exceptional performances out of more than just Heath to pick up a win.
